RYA Instructor Training & first aid
For club members, learning to sail is free, for both adults and children.
However, this training depends on us having enough RYA-approved instructors and coaches.
This is a fantastic opportunity for individual members to obtain recognised qualifications.
Instructing at WOSC is a great way to meet new friends, support the club and improve your sailing.
You can use these qualifications towards you D of E, etc.
The club requires a range of roles, they are:
The committee supports training for these roles and all training is at WOSC, except for Senior Instructor.
Assistant Instructor: 13+ and competent sailor, requires 2-3 days training at WOSC.
Dinghy Instructor: 16+ good sailor, requires online safe & fun course, powerboat 2, dinghy instructor, and first aid (total 8 days)
Senior Instructor: 18+ and a dinghy instructor already, requires safety boat certificate, 4 days of training outside WOSC,
and a workbook.
Powerboat Instructors: At WOSC, must already have PB2.
As a Club we would require the individual being trained to commit to delivering a minimum 75% of WOSC courses
for a 2-year period.
This currently would be approximately 4 to 8 days a year for the Sailing Instructors.
The Powerboat Instructors would need to carry out PB2 and powerboat refresher courses,

Only candidates with the necessary experience can be accepted.
Please contact the Training secretary if you're not sure if you meet the requirements.
The delivery of instructor courses will be tailored as best we can to individuals.
Without these instructors the Club will have to drop its RYA Training centre status.
- First aid: Anyone can do this, no volunteering required but donations encouraged.
