Team Racing For All 2013
WOSC encourages all members to get involved in team racing and runs a Team/Match racing day every year. The Club has added two more boats to its fleet of Fireflies thanks to a grant from Sport England which means we now have a full team racing flight of six boats.
Junior Team Racing Sessions are run throughout the year culminating in the Club entering a team in the
Eric Twiname Youth and Junior Team Racing Champs at the end of October.

On Sunday 5th May we will be running a two boat team racing event open to all members of the Club.
Two boat team racing is simple. The team with the boat finishing fourth (last place) loses. Each team will need four sailors, two helms two crews. We will be able to accommodate up to 8 teams and if each team sails against the other once that’s 28 races or seven races each. If all goes well we will have semi finals and a final to round it all off. Hopefully each race will be umpired and his or her decision will be final.
In order to run this competition efficiently teams must pre enter. If you would like to participate but haven't got a team just register your interest and we will endeavour to fit you into a team. We have a number of keen experienced junior crews so if two helms want to create a team please enter indicating that you need crews.
There will certainly be at least two Junior/Youth teams entered and it might be good if the Wafarer, Lightning, Solo and Handicap fleets entered teams. There is no reason to have only four members in your team as teams will be allowed to change personnel from race to race.

All we need now are entries, a fair wind and some warm sunshine for spectators on the decking!

Two Boat Team Racing

The event is open to teams of four or more sailors who are members of WOSC.

All teams must pre-enter. Entries are free and will be accepted in person by Tony Thresher or by txting/emailing him with the team name and names of the team members.

The event will be sailed in the Club's Firefly Dinghies

The briefing will be at 11.30am

The running order will be published on the day.

The first warning signal will be at 11.57am

The course will be described at the briefing but will be a standard team race S course

The event will be sailed under the ISAF rules for team racing. The main difference is that the zone round marks is two boat lengths not three.
The aim of this inaugural event is to introduce members to the fun of team racing. We will be attempting to umpire as many of the races as possible. Umpiring will be explained at the briefing. Remember collisions are looked upon extremely unfavourably so avoid them at all costs!!
