Each competitor starts a race with a handicap number (PN). At the end of the race the PN they sailed to relative to the winning boat is calculated (shown as Back Calculated Rating (BCR) in the detailed results).
The PN used for the next race is a mixture of the previous starting PN and the BCR from the previous race. The mix ratio is the same for every competitor and is at the discretion of the Sailing Secretary.
R1_PN = standard_PN
R2_PN = 25% standard_PN + 75% R1_BCR
R3_PN = 80% R2_PN + 20% R2_BCR
If a competitor does not sail a race then the previously determined handicap is carried over. The first race sailed cannot be discarded, this is to discourage "sandbagging".
I cannot get Sailwave to *not* discard the first race sailed, so the results for boats that did not sail R1 are incorrect above, they should be...
