2008 Junior Sailing Programme
The first Sunday Junior session will take place on the 20th April. We end the Junior season with the sailing week (28th July to 1st August ) and the Junior Regatta (2nd August). Note, there are a few Sundays within this period when we do not have Junior sessions. Please see below and check the WOSC calendar.
Juniors should be changed, wearing a buoyancy aid and ready to actively participate at 10 a.m on the first day (20th April). There are a limited number of boats so they will be allocated on a first come first served basis. We will be using Optimists, Toppers and our two new Firefly Dinghies
The water will still be quite cold at the beginning of the season so please ensure that adequate warm sailing clothing is worn and a dry set of clothing is readily available to change into should the need arise. Immersion in cold water rapidly drains one's energy. It is essential to wear a buoyancy aid that is both in a good state of repair and the right size. There are NO club buoyancy aids available.
It would be great to have some idea of numbers before each Sunday and to this end if you feel able to let Tony Thresher know names, ages and experience of Juniors who will be coming along on any particular Sunday it would be extremely helpful. Please do this by email either with a list of the Sundays likely to be attended or week on week even if it is the Saturday night before any particular Sunday.
A copy of the Junior Sailing Policies is posted on the club notice board.
On Saturday 5th April starting at 2.00pm we will be holding a HELPERS and PARENTS meeting. Hopefully it will answer any questions you might have about the way we run the Junior sailing sessions and will give us the opportunity to outline plans for 2008 and beyond. The programme for the meeting will be as follows:
| 2.00pm | Welcome, introductions, and outline of Junior programme and aims for 2008.
| | 2.15pm | Outline of ground rules, agreed terminology and general method.
| | 2.35pm | Rigging, launching and recovery of Optimist, Topper and Firefly (bring your sailing kit if you actually want to have a go).
| | 3.30pm | Debrief and any questions.
|
Juniors are also very welcome to participate in the Saturday sailing including the race training for beginners sessions. Club boats used for these sessions will need to be hired.
Useful Contact Numbers for the various activities:
Use of the club boats is free to Juniors participating in Sunday Training and Sailing Week.
The usual club hire fees apply for Saturday Sailing.
