West Lancashire Yacht Club 24 Hour Race
As you will see from the sailing
and social
calendars, this event will be taking place on the weekend
of Saturday
15th and Sunday 16th September 2007.
As a club we have been sending a team for
many
years. There is a row of commemorative plaques along the
end wall
of the clubhouse that marks our unborken participation. We
have
also been quite successful on some years but this event is
not just
a sailing event, it is also a major social occasion.
This year, we are once again sending a
boat. The
club has decided to buy a good secondhand Enterprise and
Tony Thresher
has offered to prepare it for the event. Having got a
boat, we need
a team. Ideally we could do with at least 18 to 20 people.
You do
not have to be an ACE sailor as you see sailing of ALL
abilities
over the weekend. All we need are club sailors, both helms
and crews,
with the enthusiasm to have a go. The usual stint is about
an hour
or so (roughly 4 laps) and if we get enough people, this
would mean
doing two stints during the 24 hour period. Off the water,
there
is the disco in the big marquee on Friday night and a
selection
of groups again in the marquee on Saturday night. The bar
in the
clubhouse never seems to close (although it ran out of
Guinness
in 2004, DISASTER!!). There is a restaurant in the marquee
selling
very reasonably priced food over the weekend and if you
are in the
camping area the canteen in the Scout building also
provides meals.
Just outside the camping area are a choice of fast food
outlets,
McDonalds and Pizza Hut being the most memorable but there
may be
more by the time of the race.
So should this have whetted your appetite
for what is an excellent weekend event
and you wish to take part please contact our Steve
Murray and put your name on the list.
